One of the joys of practicing dentistry is to be given the opportunity to treat the children of our patients at The Martin Dental Center. There are so many of our current patients who have been in our practice since their parents brought them in as little children, who are now bringing their children. Many of these lifelong patients have achieved adulthood without a single cavity, or filling. This is Dr. Martin’s goal, and with the vigilance of parents, and the preventive measures that we routinely perform during your child’s visits, it is a goal that can be achieved. Our preventative measures include regular cleanings, x-rays, fluoride treatments, and placement of sealants where needed.
It is important that our children grow up without fears of visiting the dentist. We make every effort to make your child’s visit fun and happy. Some of our best patients are children, and working together with parents, we strive to make children’s appointments "happy times".
Raising children is expensive as we all know. At The Martin Dental Center, we try to keep our fees as low as possible. For our zip code, our average fee is in the 40th percentile range, which means 60% of other dentists have higher fees than ours. Practice overhead is always increasing, with ever rising costs of rent, supplies, lab bills, salaries and benefits, utilities, etc. Accordingly, we have to have a periodic fees increase to run the practice. Dr. Martin has decided to freeze fees for children’s services indefinitely. This means NO fee increases for parents who are taking proper care of their children’s dental needs. We hope that this will ease the financial pressure of regular dental care.
If you have children who have been seeing pediatric dentists, but you feel that their care has been “factory like”, we promise that they will receive individual, caring treatment in our office. It’s about quality, not quantity here at The Martin Dental Center.
Thank you to all of our parents for trusting us to care for your children.
Ways to Fix a Chipped or Damaged Tooth
Chipping a tooth is a common problem. Falling, an accident, or biting down on something hard can cause a tooth to break. If you discover you have chipped a tooth, don't panic, your dentist can repair your broken tooth. Dr. Wyman Martin at The Martin Center For Oral Health and Aesthetics, which is located in Roswell, GA, offers a full range of dental services. Here are several treatment options for chipped teeth.
1. Dental Filling- If you have a chipped tooth, your dentist may fix it with a filling. A filling is a way to restore a chipped or broken tooth back to its normal shape and function. A dental filling will maintain the strength of your tooth and minimize the likelihood of future breakage.
2. Dental Bonding- Dental bonding can make your chipped tooth look like new again. The dental bonding procedure involved applying a tooth-colored resin material to the teeth and hardening it with a dental light. Dental bonding can usually be done in just one office visit. The procedure takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete.
3. Dental Crown- A crown is a dental cap that is placed over an existing tooth. Dental crowns are routinely used to restore teeth that are chipped or broken. A crown will make your damaged tooth look whole and healthy again. Dental crowns are incredibly strong and durable. A crown can strengthen your damaged tooth and protect it from further damage.
4. Dental Veneers- Dental veneers are used to restore teeth that are chipped or cracked. Veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are placed over one or more teeth to improve your smile. They can be made from resin composite materials or porcelain. A dental veneer covers the front of the tooth with a thicker section to replace the broken part of the tooth.

Would you rather jump out of a plane without a parachute or clean your garage with a toothbrush than have a root canal? According to folklore, just about anything is better than having a root canal. Unfortunately, far too many people believe the stories and put off having the tooth-saving procedure. Root canal therapy is among the treatments your Roswell, GA, dentist, Dr. Wyman Martin of The Martin Center for Oral Health and Aesthetics, uses to help you enjoy good oral health.
How root canals got a bad reputation
Root canals were first introduced as a mainstream dental procedure in the 1800s. At that time, dental tools were larger and less streamlined than they are today, which may have made the procedure painful. Although ether was introduced in the 1800s by a dentist, the anesthetic wasn't always effective in controlling pain. If anesthesia didn't work or wasn't available, a root canal would have been a painful experience for our ancestors.
Most of us won't soon forget painful experiences. Our great-grandparents probably shared their negative root canal experiences with their friends and neighbors, who passed along the story to younger generations.
Fortunately, things have changed since the 1800s. Thanks to innovations in dental instruments, techniques, and anesthesia, pain is usually not part of root canal therapy today.
Why would you need a root canal?
Root canals are needed when the pulp in the center of a tooth becomes inflamed or infected, causing a variety of symptoms ranging from pain to swollen gums to dangerous dental abscesses. Ignoring these symptoms can result in the loss of your tooth and without appropriate care, even death. Root canals relieve your pain and other symptoms by removing your dead or dying dental pulp tissue and protecting the tooth with a dental filling or crown.
What are root canals really like?
Although root canals are a little more complicated than fillings, the procedure will be very much the same from your perspective. The therapy involves opening the tooth to expose the soft pulp at the center of your tooth. After removing the pulp, your Roswell dentist cleans the tooth and the root canals, shapes them, and places a permanent rubber based filling to seal off the canals. You'll receive a local anesthetic to control pain, but may also opt for nitrous oxide (laughing gas) if you feel a little anxious about the procedure.

Do you have questions about dental implants?
Dental implants, a procedure that replaces missing teeth. They are an excellent option, and if taken proper care of, can last a lifetime.
Here is some more information about what Dr. Wyman Martin, your Roswell, GA, doctor, can offer:
Dental implants consist of a titanium post that replaces the missing tooth root. A Roswell dentist will place the titanium post and seal the area. You'll need to see Dr. Martin in 3-6 months to complete the procedure. During this healing time, the titanium post goes through osseointegration, the process of fusing with your jawbone.
When you return, Dr. Martin will make impressions for a custom abutment and permanent crown. Your crown will closely match the rest of your teeth.
